Anger Management Strategies: Dealing with Anger in Ways

from:

There are basically 3 ways on how to deal with anger. These are suppressing, expressing, and calming.

Suppressing anger means holding it and diverting it on another activity. Anger can lead to destructive ways and by doing something else, the emotion is lowered down and the activity becomes constructive.

Expressing anger means releasing it in a healthy and not aggressive manner. Since there are some people who could not keep their anger and divert it on another way, expressing it should be the most advisable way, however, anger must not lead to hurting others.

Calming is controlling the emotion from the inside. By doing so, the physiological response is lowered down as well.

From these 3, several anger management strategies can be drawn. Here are some of those:

- Handling properly

Anger can lead to several negative effects including frustration. This type is often cause by problems. People often believe that that every problem has its own solution. But the fact is, it is not always the case. Instead of frustratingly finding a solution to the problem, focus on how to handle situation. Solving anger would not work if you would look continuously for the solution. Start handling it properly by planning, organizing, and managing the situation into your way and the result would be better.

- Relaxation

Calming down from within would provide a better way on how to manage anger. Simple ways such as breathing and imagining calmer things would effectively provide a good outlet for anger to be free.

This is the simple ways on how to do it:

Relax your shoulder. It should not be tight. Deeply breathe from your diaphragm. Repeat the process while telling yourself with phrases such as 'calm down' and 'relax'. Don't think too much of the cause of your anger. Visualize calmer place or relaxing experiences.

Simple exercise would also relax your mind and body.

- Changing environment

Monotony can sometimes cause people irritation and anger. This is because routine can be associated with tasks from work, home or school. Places associated with workloads can also spark instant anger and irritation.

To deal with anger related to this, changing the environment would be a great relief. A vacation or out of town trips that would change the surrounding and put away the thoughts that irritate and anger you would be the best. Create a time where you can go somewhere else to have peace in yourself. It is not necessarily far. Have a peaceful place or a short break where you can give yourself the time to relax. You can do it on your own workspace or somewhere near. The point is, to be able to remove the irritation and anger; you should device a way or go to a place where you would not be able to think about it.

- Humor

Humor can loosen your tight nerves and even other people's. Humor would lessen the tension you feel.

- Reconstruction of thoughts

Many express anger by cursing, using offensive words or any expression that can express what they feel. These people would most of the time fail to constructively see that there is still a chance (if in case the source of anger is failure). The thing is, in order to see that there are more possible ways to handle your anger, you have to change the way you think and the way you look on things. This will help you release your anger in a more constructive way.
